Redman or Patriot homes?
Re: Redman or Patriot homes?
I have a patriot pinnacle home. I have had it for about 1 year. I like my home very much. I have had no major problems to date. I have had only good experience with the company. You MUST research the type of house and dealer before you buy. I looked at houses for 5 years before I decided on a house. My house has 2 x 6 ext walls, 2 x 4 int walls all 16 " on center. It also has very good insulation. My electric bills are half what they were in my 14 x 80( my new house is 32 x 65). I hope that you take all the info on this site into consideration before you buy.
Patriot Homes, are they going bankrupt?
Hello, does anyone have information whether Patriot Homes (or at least some locations) are facing Chapter 11 Bankruptcy? Tom

Just curious where did you hear about Patriot going bankrupt? I would be interested in reading the article about their bankruptcy. Thanks.

Re: Patriot Homes, are they going bankrupt?
I have been shopping in south GA. and it is my understaning that the Redman Plant in Richland Park, GA (or is it Heights, something like that) is closing in the next 60 days, and that the product line will be discontinued.
I am not an expert of any kind, rather, a intereseted consumer that has been asking ALOT of questions for the last few months.
Just an FYI for any potential Redman customers.

Re: Patriot Homes, are they going bankrupt?
I purchased a Redman modular home (cape cod) about three months ago. After the house was initially setup I performed a detailed inspection with the assistance of a couple of professiona builders. The upper level (unfinished) consisted of a vast amount of warped and cracked lumber. The manufacturer's specifications (in the Redman Modular Setup Manual) were not adhered to. The roof leaks and generally looks bad. This has been a total nightmare for my family as we are refusing to move into the home until it is brought up to factory new condition. If I were to list all the defects in this house you'd think I was exagerating to the extreme. I will be filing a law suit shortly. Buyer be ware!
Re: Patriot Homes, are they going bankrupt?
You are very smart to have an inspector inspect your home. I wish my husband and I had done that with our Patriot home. Keep us in touch with the progress of your lawsuit against Redman.
With the downward trend in manufactured home sales, don't you think that the industry would put out a better product? Just asking.

Re: Patriot Homes
I've owned 3 homes built in various Patriot plants. Each had their own unique quirks and warranty problems, but each and every item was repaired either by the dealer crew or the factory crew.
The best Patriot division for warranty and customer service is the Crystal Valley division. I'm 390 miles from the factory, and the plant General Manager and service manager came to my house to check out a problem I had. Now THAT'S service.
The main thing here when you get a new home, go over it with a fine tooth comb. Inspect every nook and cranny. Prepare a "punch list" and provide a copy to both the dealer's service department (not the salesman, he doesn't care) and the factory service department. Keep a copy for yourself. Keep after the dealer to get the items taken care of.
If the dealer or builder doesn't know about the problem, they can't fix it.
You have a warranty, USE IT!
The majority of the problems and mistakes in homes that I've seen are in the "bargain basement" homes and single-wides.

Re: Patriot Homes
Sorry to be so late in viewing and posting, but as I said in posts on this site over a year ago, we bought a Redman in 2001, 28x66 and we love it. Yeah, there are minor nicks and scratches that come with the home, usually associated with the moving, in our case from Ind. to northern Michigan, but our dealer out of Gaylord was / is fantastic, and so is the home. W've had nothing but good luck with it. Our heating bills are 1/3 of what our stick build was (same sq ft). Redman used a new (to them) furnace in '01 found they needed an update to venting problems and we recieved a call from the dealer, who had been notified by Redman, they came out and did the updates. We love our home, very satisified with Redman and would certainly buy from them again with no hesitation. Our walk-through was so minor.
Re: Patriot Homes
Tim,
You mention in your post a "punch list", any possibility that you might have a pre-created or formatted list of the things a new home owner should be looking for and at? We are strongly considering purchasing a Patriot Crystal Valley Jackson Cove home. If we decide to purchase, we would like to be certain that we have all of the details covered once the home is set up, so that we do NOT run into any of the difficulty we have read about in this forum.
Any other thoughts or ideas on this home or doing a final walk through of a newly set-up home would be greatly appreciated.
Also, any ideas on what the best set-up is for putting this home on a basement? We are considering doing insulated foam forms/poured basement. It is alot of square feet in the end but if you can double the size of your home for just 25% of the original price of the home that is worthwhile, wouldn't you agree?
Look forward to hearing from any of you.
