Anyone own A Karston? And have feedback?
Anyone own A Karston? And have feedback?
I purchased Randy's book and I am glad I did. He says they are an above average builder but does not make them a top pic. I assume this is because of the longitudinal flooring system. I am impressed with there quality but hesitate because he did not give them an official rec. Has anyone had problems with this floor? Anyways any feedback would be great. And Randy if your opinion has changed I'd like to hear it.
Re: Anyone own A Karston? And have feedback?
I don't have any feedback but a question of my own concerning the Karsten home's.
What about the Arcotta Decking, manufactured by L.P., is it just another fancy name for NovaDeck (pressboard) or is it better or what. I was told recently that it has a lifetime warranty.
Any input?????? Comments!

Re: Anyone own A Karston? And have feedback?
NovoDeck has a ten year warranty.....but the devil is in the details...it excludes all damage from any type of moisture....WELL...water and moisture is what does the damage...often with in the first few years..
Read the whole warranty...then decide...word of mouth will not do you any good a few years from now......If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, acts like a duck....it IS a duck..Check out the warranty...
You might call the LP sales rep involved with "Arcata" (notice spelling) particleboard manufactured home flooring....Ask them for a copy of the waaranty...Let us know how it goes..
Portland Sales Office...LP

Between George Washington and MR. True you should get an accurate answer to your question..

Hello,
I live in Northern Arizona and I recently purchased a Karsten Home from the Albuquerque, New Mexico plant. I went there and toured the factory myself and what I saw blew me away. I was sold when I finished the tour. The longitudinal floor has less air leaks from the heating ducts and also, let me advise you that the longitudinal floor has 2x6 spacers so the floor doesn't seperate. I rate this home to be one of the best in the western states. My home was ordered heavy duty with 2x6 sidewalls, plywood wrapped under the hardboard siding, tape and textured thru-out the home, heavy duty door hinges, architectural shingles, 2x4 interior walls, 4:12 pitched shingled roof, R-38 in the roof attic, ceramic tiled floor in the kitchen and counter tops, one-piece tub shower combos, upgraded oak kitchen cabinets, skylights in the kitchen, bathroom, and partents retreat, heavy duty 12" I beam that doesn't sag like other homes do. I shopped around different retailers until I found this company. Make sure you check this out for yourself also. Let me advise you that other homes don't boult the outriggers together, only the Karsten homes does, this way the home doesn't seperate at all. Check it out for yourself. Karsten also manufactured their homes in the factory side by side down the assembly line. They make sure all the walls align together. The steel chassis rests on this huge jacks with rollers and moves sideways down the factory and they make sure it's leveled all the way. Now who does that to their homes. I visited some plants in Arizona and the home 's roll down the assembly line with the tires on the homes and aren't leveled at all (PalmHarbor, Cavco Homes). Make sure you check that out also. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I heard all the stuff you've said form a saleman but its good to hear it from the owner.

I have been to the Karston plant in Stayton Oregon and was impressed. One thing Randy didn't have in his book was that the Oregon plant builds their homes with transverse flooring.
