All sorts of problems

Post by K » Wed Mar 27, 2002 8:55 pm

Purchased a 98 Spirit Mobile home . Have had major problems with this home. Floors caved in,walls are bowing out, Ceilings caving in Lots and Lots of water damage. Looking for anyone else having problems with this manufactuer. Tried getting them to do something with no avail. Dealer went out of business. This home is 4 years old and falling to the ground. Anyone else out there with this problem?

You say there is lots and lots of water damage ? Are you sure the dealer or builder are to blame for water damage ? It seems reasonable to assume that if there was a lot of water damage before you purchased the home that you would not have purchased it? If it had not gotten wet at the dealership it would seem that the problem started later and that might preclude a factory problem. If there has been so much moisture as to warp the walls and caused the floor probelms there must have been a considerable amount of water through the house? What happened ?

Have you looked at how the home was installed ? Was it set up correctly ? Is the roof leaking ? or is there a plumbing problem ?How long after you moved in did you notice dampness? How did you go about reporting this problem to the builder?

Did you contact the agency in your state that regulates the federal building code for manufactured homes ? You can find the office in your state below

It is important to provide the following information if you want to file a complaint:

First write a numbered list of all the problems. After you have listed each problem then list the dates and names of the people at the dealership and the manufacturer that you spoke to about the problems. Then list the dates that service men came to your home and what they did during that visit.
Also be sure to include:
-1- Your name, address and a telephone number where you can be reached during the day
-2- The name of the manufacturer
-3- The serial number and model number of your home
-4- The HUD label number (the red tag on the back of the home)
-5- The date purchased
-6- The name of the retail business who sold you the home.
-7- Copies of any correspondence or contacts with the retailer and the manufacturer to resolve the problem.

Make copies of this letter. Keep one and send a copy by Certified Mail Return Receipt to:
-1- The Dealership where you purchased the home
-2- The Manufacturer of the home. Factory Addresses
-3- The Agency that regulates manufactured housing in your state. You can find the contact information for that agency by highlighting your state and clicking on the Search button.

The water damage is caused from water seeping into "stress cracks" in the roof, running down the walls of the mobile home and into the underbelly (the black linging) it finally filled up ruining the novadek floors in the kitches, The back sliding door has been replaced twice and it is still leaking, We are in the process of talking to a consumer laywer right now about the problems we are having. The dealership before going out of business stated this was a manufactuer problem and the manufact. stated this was dealer problem to fix. So since noone wanted to fix this problem from day one this is where we are now.
I have kept lists of letters, phone calls, people ive talked to,and we had the THC come out to inspect the home. THis is one big mess.
Thanks for more information

I never heard of stress cracks in a roof. Can you tell me more about this, like what it is that is cracked? Shingles? Decking? Trusses?
