Siding
Re: Siding
Most T-111 (that is most likely what your Boise-Cascade siding really is) siding needs to be maintained/replaced every 5-15 yrs. Most homeowners replace either with the same, or with Vinyl-siding, or with 'Masonry' siding (all which can be purchased at any home improvement store). You have to look at several factors with each. Cost, Weight, and Long-Term Maintenance.
With T-111, well you'll get basically what you have always had. You may be able to get a higher quality (i.e. thickness of the plank) which can give you a longer life-span in the product if properly maintained. I see from your posting that you are in S. Texas, any wood-based product will deteriorate quicker in the moist conditions that your in. The cost to replace will probably be the cheapest with this product.
There are many benifits to vinyl-siding. You can get the longevity in the product, as well as low-maintenance (a good "washing" is necessary from time to time, but that's about it). Vinyl can lead to moisture problems if not installed correctly, Have a professional installer do the work. If your in or near to the coast you may have problems with the wind-storms we can sometimes get...winds in excess of 55mph...these storms can pull-off sections of your siding. This product would probably be mid-range in cost.
With 'Masonry' siding i would look at manufactures...the most well-known of which is Hardi-Plank Masonry siding. I would not put ANYTHING besides true "Hardi-Plank" siding on my home. You need to look at the weight this product can add to your home...It is concrete! Hardi-Plank is a very reliable product and very long-lasting IF PROPERLY INSTALLED. Definately have a Pro put this stuff on! This product will be high-end in cost.
Past that...i don't know of much else you can do!
