14 ft. what year?
what year was the first 14 foot wide production mobile home made? and do they still make them? and do they still make 12 wides?
Re: 14 ft. what year?
I am not sure about the very first 14 wide home...but it was sometime in the middle to late 70's...Yes 14 wides are still built and a few manufacturers still build 12 wides...there are even a few "park model" builders of 8 wide units in the business yet...The only thing gone for good are 10 wides..
Re: 14 ft. what year?
Bob, The first 14'wide to roll off the assembly line was in 1970. The company that made it was Craftmade, Homes of Henderson, Texas. They were a great company and then another company in Colorado made the first one in that state was Century Housing Corporation in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Now the first 18' wide was made by Oakcreek homes of Texas and Tiffany homes of Texas in 1990.
Re: 14 ft. what year?
Thanks for the info......It is true Texas always has to have the biggest..
Re: 14 ft. what year?
Although ten-foot wide standard production floor plans seem to be extinct, a ten-foot wide home may be obtained on a limited basis as a special-order unit. The problem with this is the price to produce amd sell a home of that size: In many cases a 14x70 home can be purchased for the price of a special-order 10x50. It would only make sense in very specific applications.
Re: 14 ft. what year?
Bob, And yes, is it a rumor or not? Heard Texas might allow 20' wide in their state. The issue is still in Texas state dept. of transportation. They are reviewing how transporting this big of a home would effect traffic.
