speed bumps

just before the christmas holidays the owner of our park(i assume not in his right mind!) installed "killer" speedbumps in our park. no one ever drives through more than 10 mph and i have never seen anyone actually speeding. needless to say we were all in for a shock. they were placed approx. 1/4 block apart, most are at least 5-6 inches high and about 12-15 inches wide. there is one that is about 6 feet wide. ITS LIKE REPEATEDLY DRIVING OVER A CURB. the day this was done i came home from work and encountered my first new bump and my glasses flew off my face! it was dark out so it was hardly nopticeable. one resident lost his muffler! we also get a lot of ambulance calls due to the number of seniors living here. i would not want to go out of here in an ambulance in a hurry. with most of the new bumps you have to come to a stop and then proceed very slowly. my low riding car makes a very hard and loud clunk driving over these bumps any suggestions. my neighbors are thinking of just hacking them with a sledgehammer, ANY SUGGESTIONS?
