water damage due to ice dam on roof
water damage due to ice dam on roof
I live in Carter lake Iowa and recently we had ice dams on our roof. I own a brand new 2004 Clayton and the leaking was so bad that water was running down our wires in our kitchen and in our hallway off light fixtures. We have massive damage to our brand new mobile home and I contacted everyone (manufacturer, insurance, our community). Clayton homes told us to get on the roof our selves and scrape the ice off. Our mobile home community eventually did this and has also now tore off parts of our shingles. Any suggestions on what measures need to be taken? I have already cintacted HUD, and Iowa's fire marshall and our insurance company. Thanks. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

about all you can do is contact your homeowners insurance...and you've done that

Hello I feel bad for your sistuation. I do know it is your responsibility to remove
ice, snow, and any other debris on your home. My husband pretty much removes
the snow almost everytime it snows . They sell big scrapers for this reason.
sorry I hope it worked out for you

Also, you can buy heated wires to place on your roof to prevent ice dams. The good thing is that temporary exposure to water isn't likely to cause lasting damage; it's constant exposure which causes rot.
Ice dams are a problem with all homes in these circumstances, not just manufactured homes.

Thanks for all your responses. To my suprise Clayton came to our rescue after my complaints about my situation. Many other people in our place must have had the same issue and evidently complained to the right people in he right places. They are taking care of everything related to the issue. Among this not only are they taking care of the insid of the house, this summer they are coming back to follow up on the work on the roof which can not be done due to weather. Also they are going to install an antiice dam system free of charge!
As far as responsiboilietes are concerned the removing of any snow and ice is our responsibility which goes without saying.
But if your an older person lets say 90 yrs with out any one to help you I guess that person is out of luck.
But the good news is as far as the main issue is concerned,as of today it is being taken care of as it should be as you read this posting.
It could happen to anyone. I guess it was how I handled it.
or may be the many others that had the same problems and opinions as I that together
got this problem brought to closure!
Im just thankfull that people are working together to make this right!
to all that trie to help out ,I really thank you for your time and post!
god bless!
