co-signer needs info

Post by darlene » Thu Jan 29, 2004 1:31 pm

I am a co-signer for my son in law(the father of my granddaughter). A few years ago I co signed for him to get a trailer with the understanding with the company he purchased from that this would be transferred into his name. The reason he could not get under his own loan according to the company he bought from is that he did not have any or enough substanial credit, but in a year of good credit he would have a better chance and they would help us change that over into his name. I specifically asked the salesman several times and the manager if this was correct and they both said by all means. Well right befor the year was up, we were going to go and do that and start the paperwork and found that Fleetwood was no longer there. So I have been stuck with this trailer that I would never use myself and my son-in law has and paying. I might note I have never put a dime on. I want to buy a home now and my points are to high because of it being on my credit report. Question: How do I get it in his name and who will I call to help me do this???
Thanks for any info.... :-)

I am afraid you were lied to you...the folks to have asked at the time was the lender...not the salesperson who is about to get a commission check..

To get the home refinanced might be very hard to do...details matter here...

How is his credit...have you asked the lender to help?..Is the home in a park..or on land your son in law own?...Is the home a single or double?....Is it in his names as well as yours?...

I will say this account would not lower your credit scores..there must be some other problem..or is it that your son in law is not paying on time????

I'm not sure what your state laws are but, in north carolina it matters which name is on top as the owner ..is it possible that your name is on top...and you are the owner and he is the cosigner? you were lied to once ..hmmmmm!,,,,,I just co-signed for one of my sons on a truck and they tried to pull this on us.....didn't happen
