wheels/axles for a 14x70 home

Post by Rita » Fri Dec 05, 2003 6:36 pm

I have decided to trade in my older (1978) home on a new one. The dealer will take my old home as a trade-in; however, the salesman says that wheels/axles for 14x70's are hard to find. If someone has to fabricate them, I could lose a chunk of my (tiny, but better than nothing) trade-in amount, due to the cost. Is he right? Do I need to worry about this? Should I start searching for wheels/axles on my own? Where? Yipes!

Geez...another story to bump the price...Any dealer in the business will have slip (these are axles fabricated to fit all available axle sizes) axles available to move older model 10, 12, 14 and even some 16 wides...

If the dealer is not equipped to do business..I would be concerned about his set up ability and future service ability..

Hopefully you are talking to a sales person who does not know what he/she is talking about..

Thanks, Murray. On my next visit to the office, I will just "slip" in the term slip axles, and see what happens!

yes, any installer which would be capable of moving a home should have slip axles. how are they made? that 1978 of yours probably takes a 76" inch or 84" inch axle. this is measured from i beam to i beam. to make a 76" axle , take a 96" axle and cut 22 inches out of the middle , the take a 24" long piece of 3" inside diameter steel pipe and slide over both ends of th cut axle. for a 84 " axle only cut out 14 inches from the middle , or use a 36 inch pipe to join together. i personally have mine built with a 60" inch piece of pipe in middle so than can be used from 76" to 101" and up. but in reality the costs of moving the home may be more than it is worth , probably just a salesperson that has never setup a home. i have many times that all salespeople should have to go out with an installation crew at least one time and set one up. in the instances where this has happened , you would not believe how smoothly things went for there customers afterward

I bet you love the sales person who tells the customer they can move in their new double in 3 days.....
