Re: Furnace and A/C maintenance

If in fact the air and heat are a combined unit there should be two separate components. The condenser unit is usually located outside the house, The evaporator coil is mounted inside or above the furnace. Central air units should be professionally inspected and adjusted before the beginning of ever...

Re: drains gurgling

Pumping the tank will not resolve d-box or drain field problems... it will only delay the time it takes to start backing up. It is possible that a roof vent has become loose in the wall. If you can't determine this from the roof, You may have to open a wall to find out. If it is not venting and not ...

Re: drains gurgling

Sounds like either a blockage or a venting problem. Start with a small and easy step. Replace the auto vent under the sink... the one you said when removed improves improves the flow. For compete directions see What is A Plumbing Check Vent? If changing the vent fails to fix the problem and opening ...

Re: roof vents

Phone three or four licensed roofers in your area for an estimate. Most will offer a free visit to look at your problem and tell you what they would do to correct it. If all three find the same problem and recommend the same fix your choices then are do-it-yourself or hire the one you think might do...

Re: Destroy & Rebuild

The best demo crew I have seen arrived on site with a big dumpster, a bulldozer and front-end loader. They removed all of the reusable windows and literally smashed and compacted the home to sizes that could be picked up by the loader and placed in the dumpster. Within three hours they were raking u...

Re: Adding new sub-floor over old particle board

I had not considered a "cover up". You must cut out any areas that are even slightly effected. Particleboard is like a sponge and once it absorbs moisture, and the damage continues to spread like cancer, until it is cut back to solid, "uninfected" decking.... That said ... you do...

Re: Adding new sub-floor over old particle board

Overlaying already compromised particle board decking is a mistake, because once particle board absorbs moisture the decking will continue to decompose until the wet portion is cut out. When we renovate homes that were built with particleboard decking, I prefer replacing only the damaged and "s...

Re: blueprint of 1979 vindale home

It is most often difficult if not imposable to find plans of homes that old, but factory built homes have very standardized construction, making it very easy to locate the essentials. Pipes that need to be heat taped are only those, exposed to cold weather that were connected in the field during ins...

Re: Destroy & Rebuild

Demolition of any structure can be very dangerous. The resulting trash will contain bulky remains that would have to be re-handled perhaps several times to bring it down to transportable size. Most local dumps or haulers charge by the pound. The cost to transport and dump the remains of several home...
