Re: Moisture under one end of my mobile home.

Covering the ground under the home with plastic is a very good idea. It is strongly recommended when installing homes. The foundation vents need to be open during winter months. They actually decrease heat loss because damp insulation is very ineffective. Closing off the porch was a great idea as po...

Re: cash purchase

These days you have to do it for any transaction that is over, I believe $10,000. Even to deposit into your own bank account.

Re: roof load

Drywall is likely way too heavy for this home. The ceiling is likely attached to 1 by 4's only. Rmurray is right, if after 6 years the walls are holding up, don't worry about it. The floors are usually a bigger issue when adding a shingled roof, but they may have been adequately supported.

Re: roof vents

The duct should be opened up. This is a fresh air make up duct. It should be open into the return air supply. The purpose of this duct is to allow fresh air to come in to the house to replace the air exhausted by vent fans in the kitchen and baths. This is important for maintaining air quality. The ...

Re: roof vents

DO NOT cover roof vents in the winter. That is when they are most needed. Winter air is cold and dry while the air in your home is warm and damp. Any space outside of the insulation has to stay cold and dry or else you get condensation.

Re: Ordering a M/H un-finished?

You can order a modular home with or without whatever you don't like from just a framed shell up to finished. The IRC is much more flexible that way. It will cost more.

Re: Upgraded Insulation

The most popular one that I remember was Energy Qualified, which was an Owens Corning program. It seems like most of the stickers were placed near the data plate. It would be a logo that says EQ with a Pink Panther. This would have been available in the 80's. If you are in the northwest, there is Su...

Re: Wall insulation

The vapor barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation. In Florida, that would be the outside. Since you removed the paneling rather than the siding, I would put the kraft paper outward. it is nearly impossible to use plastic effectively from inside when you want it on the outside. It is never a ...

Re: Ceiling plaster falling off in Redman Manufactured Home

If your house is 5 years old, it is more likely a stippled ceiling, which is a brushed texture as opposed to the little ball look of popcorn. Either way, the cause of your problem is likely excessive moisture. Since it has started in the bathroom and kitchen, I wonder if you you use the vent fans wh...
