Replacing mirrored closet doors
We have a bedroom with two closets which each having mirrored sliding doors on them. The person who sleeps there doesn't like them, and they are very difficult and heavy to slide. Each closet opening is 8 X 8 feet. Does anyone have any idea of what they could be replaced with? We don't like just pla...

Is there anything besides indoor/outdoor carpet for an outside deck?
We have an outside deck which is quite large, probably 25 feet by 6 feet. It is covered with ugly indoor/outdoor carpet. Is there anything else we could cover it with? Does someone make "fake wood" that looks like real wood but can be hosed off? I guess there are some prettier indoor/outdo...

Re: Replace metal skirting (with hardy board) before painting exterior?
Thanks to everyone who replied. Question: Can the Hardiboard be cut to add the required venting every 15 feet or so? Also, will changing the skirting from metal to Hardiboard (or T-1-11 or something) help insulate under the home? The floors (which are carpeted but the carpet was here and seems prett...

Re: Replace metal skirting (with hardy board) before painting exterior?
Gorgeous house and setting, David!
How does one get any color or pattern in hand applied stucco? Does it have a product name I might research at Home Depot or Lowe's?
I have come across Stonecote, which has a brick pattern. Perhaps this is it.
Thanks again for the information.

Re: Replace metal skirting (with hardy board) before painting exterior?
Thank you for replying, David. We really don't wish to purchase a concrete for skirting. I doubt if there is anyone local (we live in a small town), and I don't really like the look of concrete. It seems like a bit of "overkill" to me. You say you haven't seen hardiboard used as skirting. ...

Replace metal skirting (with hardy board) before painting exterior?
We have a 1974 double-wide whose paint (light green) is fading and oxidized. We have metal skirting (about 15" wide panels) all around the house, except for a deck area. Our handyman repaired the deck and needed to build a new section. When it was time to cover that area, he used hardy board (I...

replacing brown walls with the same panels?
We have a 1974 home which had those dark brown walls, with vertical slats or ridges or whatever they are, until most were painted light colors. The previous owners tried to repair one of the walls and did a horrible job. The joint compound or whatever they used is uneven and ugly. I have been using ...

Re: central air
I find that closing some of the vents closest to the a/c tends to draw the cooler air down into the farther vents.
Also, ceiling and portable fans seem to help move the cooler air around.

Re: Painting Cabinets
We have a 1974 home and I painted the ugly dark brown bathroom cabinets. I first removed the ugly hardware (later replaced with cute updated hardware), primered with Zins, and then painted a very light beige (Cream in Your Coffee). I let them dry for a week before using the bathroom for showers. (We...
