I own a 17 year old Fleetwood double wide and I absolutely detest the pattern on the wallboard in my kitchen! Is it possible to paint over or paper over ugly wall board?

I own a 17 year old Fleetwood double wide and I would love to add a wood burning fireplace in the front room. Any ideas on how feasable this is and what companies I should check out?
